The use of prepaid SIM cards in GSM alarm diallers is strongly discouraged. The equipment is not suitable for checking or topping up the balance (call credit) of the SIM card. Once the balance has been used up, the dialler will stop working, which could lead to damage. In addition, the functionality of a prepaid SIM card is often more limited than that of a subscription.
Both the Octalarm alarm diallers and the devices from the SV product line are supplied with a non-activated SIM card from Wireless Logic Benelux.
- Octalarm alarm diallers:
you activate the SIM card by taking out an Octalarm Connect subscription. To do this, you enter into an agreement with Adésys and pay the amount due monthly by direct debit. Read more about Octalarm Connect. - SV product line:
you enter into an agreement with Wireless Logic Benelux. Various subscriptions are available. Read more about the subscriptions and activating the SIM card.
To ensure safety in (highly critical) processes, we recommend replacing outdated devices in good time with a newer type that alerts via the (significantly changed) modern digital telephone networks.

Only older types of diallers that cannot switch to the 4G network will be affected by this. Read more about the consequences of switching off the 2G/3G network.
Telecom providers in the United Kingdom have started phasing out their 2G and 3G networks. The schedule varies per provider. For clarity about the availability and coverage of 2G and 3G, we advise you to contact your provider.

GSM modems with KPN SIM cards that send data via the 2G network through a dial-up connections will no longer function from 1 April 2021. Examples of such GSM modems are:
- Severa GSM modems
- Siemens TC35T
- GSM versions of Octalarm-T and Octalarm-IP alarm diallers (when controlling pagers)
If data transfer is still required, these modems must be replaced by GSM modems and alarm devices with internet-based data transfer, such as GPRS, 3G or 4G. Because the 2G and 3G networks are also switched off, 4G modems are preferred.
Circuit Switched Data (CSD) is an analogue dial-up technology on GSM networks that has been widely used in the M2M world for a long time. With the advent of more modern IP technology, CSD has now become obsolete. Maintaining this complex network technology no longer fits within the strategy of telecom providers and has therefore been discontinued.
What does this mean for you?
From 1 April 2021, CSD will no longer be supported. Devices in the field that use CSD for data transfer will therefore lose their connection to the network. Replace the existing, obsolete hardware with an IP-based solution.
